THE FOLIO
WATER + WORDS is a portfolio of fourteen pages conceived and designed by Frances B. Ashforth. Each page is made up of an original image, quote, biographical information and a drawing. Also included are a folded cover, title page and introduction. Clamshell boxes are available for the portfolio designed and created by Bella Forte Designs, Santa Fe, New Mexico. All drawings and field sketches are by the artist. The field drawings were digitally captured and used to create photopolymer intaglio plates, printed in blue-black ink on grey Magnani Pescia 300gsm paper. Quotes and biographical texts are screenprinted in dark grey ink on white Rives BFK 280gsm paper with additional drawings screenprinted in light gray ink. All text is Benton Sans Light font and was type-set by the artist. All printing was done by Staff Master Printer Christopher Shore at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, Connecticut. Frances and Chris have collaborated on numerous printmaking projects since 2009 and always consider the sustainability of their materials. Water + Words is an edition of 14, with 2 artist's proofs, 2 hors de commerce, 1 printer's proof and 1 CCP archive proof.
THE ARTIST
Frances Ashforth's prints have been shown throughout the United States in numerous galleries, print biennials, and museums. Her work has also been shown in Canada, the U.K., Denmark and Ireland. She strives for sustainability in her print practice by using non-toxic water base inks. Her work has always been about the study of land, water and sky. History of the land, land use and the observation of water cycles in both arid and wetland habitats continue to be her primary focus.
